July 15, 2021 KARACHI: Sindh Education and Labour Minister Saeed Ghani has said the Sindh government has duly exercised its power to notify Rs25,000 as the minimum monthly wage for labourers in the province. Talking to The News on Wednesday, Ghani completely negated the impression that the Sindh government had not completed due procedure as prescribed in the Sindh Minimum Wages Act-2015 while notifying the latest minimum wage for labourers. He clarified that it was basically the prerogative of the provincial government/cabinet to decide the minimum wage for workers in the province. The minister said that the Sindh Minimum Wages Board was only supposed to give its recommendation to the provincial government as the cabinet takes the final decision in this regard. ....

Steel company to install solar power project Scheme is expected to steer green revolution in steel sector At a time when the government is suspending gas supply to the industry that generates its own electricity, Agha Steel Industries has announced plans to install a 2.25-megawatt solar power project. According to a notification sent by the company to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday, it has signed a contract with Renewable Power Private Limited for installation of the 2.25MW solar power project at its production facility located at Port Qasim, Karachi. “Meezan Bank has been nominated as the lead Islamic banking arranger for the project,” it said. “This would be one of the largest solar power projects installed by a steel manufacturer in Pakistan.” ....
AHMEDABAD: Pakistan and Bangladesh are rationing gas and buyers across South Asia are seeking alternative fuels after spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices surged to record highs, government and industry officials told Reuters. Spot LNG prices LNG-AS have nearly tripled since early November as freezing temperatures across North Asia boosted demand and depleted inventories. Since July, prices are up a dizzying 1,000 per cent. Gas-fired power plants and industries across the region are scrimping on gas, with the scramble for other fuels driving up demand for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and residue oil. In Pakistan, which is more reliant on spot LNG imports for its winter needs, gas use for industry is being limited to certain hours and industry executives have warned the situation has become critical. ....
