Doug Steinhardt, pro-Trump NJ GOP leader, enters 2021 governor's race

Republican Party Chairman Doug Steinhardt announced Friday he is running for governor in next year s contest, pitching himself as a pro-Trump, gun-toting Everyman who will shake up the political class in the state capitol.
In a two-minute video posted on Facebook, Steinhardt touted his deeply conservative bona fides while promoting himself as just the type of outsider needed to cure the ills of a state that has swung too far to the left under Gov. Phil Murphy.
I m not a politician at all, said Steinhardt, who has been involved in politics for 20 years as mayor of Lopatcong and chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee in addition to the state party. ....

N.J. Republican chair touts his support of Trump as he enters race to take on Murphy

State Republican Chairman Doug Steinhardt on Friday formally announced he has entered the 2021 race for the party’s nomination for New Jersey governor, painting himself as a “true conservative” and staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.
Steinhardt, who earlier filed papers to seek the office, announced his candidacy with a blast at Gov. Phil Murphy, the Democrat he hopes to oust next November, while touting his support for gun owners’ rights and opposition to abortion.
“Phil Murphy promised us stronger and fairer, but instead gave us weaker and poorer. His billions in new debt, buckets of new taxes and far-left agenda are tearing our families apart and costing New Jerseyans their lives and livelihoods.” Steinhardt, a 52-year-old attorney from Warren County, said in a statement. ....
