SAULT STE. MARIE Each year, 100+ Women With Heart has a goal to get 100 women to pledge $100 each to raise $10,000 that will be awarded to a local nonprofit in the area.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many businesses and nonprofits across the country, fundraising and giving is needed now more than ever.
“I had a dream,” said Nikki Dowd-McKechnie when talking about the inspiration of creating this yearly event. “For me, I run a nonprofit and I know how hard it is to try to get money from grants and everything else … I didn’t have all the details worked out, but I knew that I wanted to create something that wouldn’t be so cumbersome and try to get money to a nonprofit in Chippewa County.”
Bayliss Library celebrating reading month amidst pandemic
The Sault News
SAULT STE. MARIE Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has restricted many areas of life, the Bayliss Public Library is still open at 50% capacity and celebrating reading month.
“We have been doing the best we can to meet the needs of the community during this time,” said Lisa Waskin, who has been the director of Superior District Library for the past seven years. “We are all struggling with not being able to do more at this time since that is the mission of the library to help people. It has been hard on all of the staff. We want to keep our patrons safe, our staff safe, our loved ones at home safe, but we also want to help people when they need it the most. It has been a hard line to balance on for the last year.”
