chp is warning drivers to slow down and wake up, be alert. there is more coming tonight. a break in some places and yet in some places where it rained, it did pour today. low pressure is spinning off northern california pretty much staying in place. you really get a sense of that low by looking at the direction of the rain, i mean, out of the south and southeast. first the rain in uncharacteristic fashion begins in the south bay and heads north with that low pressure to our west. it s no big surprise as you can see in the santa cruz mountains, pretty good cells coming down from time to time. in the east bay, not as intense. in the peninsula, san francisco all the way down through san mateo mostly light and up in thenorth bay, mostly scattered showers. this is coming from south to north. the rainfall totals have been impressive. we have more showers, more intense showers and more thunder coming into the bay area, potential at least, for that tonight. we ll cover this at ....

reporter: this is benjamin vance and these are his radios. out here yet this morning. good morning, ray. copy that. reporter: he was a ham radio and police scanner. the purpose it have all, to find out where trees are blocking roads. it s just being ready and being able to do what i can with what i ve got. reporter: this all started five years ago when ben got a job where he had to commute to the south bay every day. he soon ran into problems getting over the hill. wi the ded to carry a ouget ormy reporter: he estimates hecleared more than 40 trees mostly near 17 and nearby county roads. first he cuts the fallen tree into smaller pieces and then uses his truck to tow those pieces off the road. he said it can take anywhere from 5:00 to an hour and a halfdepending on the size of the tree. it s just a hoppy. really, i just do it to help out. reporter: ben says his dad taught him to use a comain saw to use a chainsaw when he was 8 years old. it was m ....
