Courthouse to honor law enforcement amid 'Light Ohio Blue' campaign | News, Sports, Jobs

CADIZ For the third consecutive year, the Harrison County Courthouse will be illuminated with blue lights to show support for local law enforcement.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department has participated in the statewide “Light Ohio Blue” campaign since 2019. The program honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty as well as those currently serving and encourages local residents and businesses to show their support for law enforcement personnel by placing blue lights around the exterior of their homes and businesses.
Sheriff Ronald “Joe” Myers requested the Harrison County Board of Commissioners’ support for this year’s campaign during Wednesday’s regularly scheduled meeting. ....

Custer Memorial Association hoping to recover two missing road signs | News, Sports, Jobs

This is one of two New Rumley signs that were reported stolen Thursday. Both signs were located in the community along Ohio 646 in Rumley Township. Local officials are encouraging anyone with information regarding the signs whereabouts to contact the Harrison County Sheriff s Department.
NEW RUMLEY The Custer Memorial Association is hoping to recover two signs that apparently were stolen earlier this week from New Rumley, an unincorporated community inside Rumley Township.
The two signs, stationed at either end of the community along Ohio 646, have vanished. Only the posts the signs were mounted atop remain.
Dave Rose, president of the Custer Memorial Association, said officials noticed the signs were missing Wednesday but were unsure if they possibly had just been taken down for maintenance purposes. Harrison County to receive 911 service upgrades | News, Sports, Jobs

CADIZ Harrison County will soon receive upgrades to its 911 system that will help improve communications and dispatch services.
Harrison County Commissioners Don Bethel, Dale Norris and Paul Coffland signed an agreement between the county and Motorola Services on Wednesday to purchase upgrades for its Next Generation 911 system. The total cost for the upgrades is just over $400,000 which will come from the county’s 911 funds.
“Everything is paid for out of the 911 funds, the surcharges and levy. This is not coming out of the general fund,” Coffland said.
In signing the contract prior to the end of the year, the county was able to save about $63,000, Coffland said. He noted the upgrades will include new equipment for the sheriff’s future office location at the former SSG George J. Conaway U.S. Army Reserve Center. ....
