A Monmouth man turned himself in to local police on Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of Romel Gilliam on Monday. 18–year-old Spencer Sage of Monmouth is now facing 1st-degree murder charges and is in custody. Sage turned himself in at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday and his bond was set at $500,000. 26-year-old Romel Gilliam was found by Monmouth officers Monday on the 300 block of South 9th Street just after 7 p.m. Gilliam was transported to OSF Holy Family Medical Center where he died of his injuries. Sage awaits an initial court appearance.
