New Mexico State University is partnering with Tri-State Generation and Transmission to join the Electric Power Research Institutes National Demonstration and Monitoring of Indoor Food Production Facilities research project to explore indoor agriculture concepts. The project will use a container-based farm to study the energy, water and sustainability impact of indoor farming, as well as explore opportunities to foster workforce and economic development in Cibola County, New Mexico. Las Cruces Education: NMSU collaborates with Israeli companies to study water-saving technology

New Mexico State University is positioning itself as a leader in agricultural sustainability as a team of researchers embark on new projects to study groundbreaking water-saving technology.
The two studies, which align with the university’s strategic goal to advance research activity to address global challenges, are the result of new partnerships with two agrotechnology companies based in Israel, Tal-Ya Agriculture Solution and N-Drip.
Under the partnerships, researchers from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and College of Engineering formed an interdisciplinary group to study the companies’ signature water-saving systems: Tal-Ya’s Mitra and N-Drip’s Gravity Micro Irrigation. Manoj Shukla, professor of plant and environmental sciences, is serving as the director of the two studies, which launched in March amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with support from NMSU� ....

ACES team discusses artificial intelligence at agriculture convention

A team of experts from New Mexico State Universitys College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences recently led a virtual discussion on artificial intelligence in agriculture as part of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agricultures convention held last month.
Rolando A. Flores, dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University, was one of the presenters at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agricultures convention in November.
Participants included ACES Dean Rolando A. Flores, ACES alumnus Mario Allegri and ACES faculty members Derek Bailey, Lara Prihodko and Manoj Shukla. Other presenters at the convention, held Nov. 24 via Zoom, included representatives from Purdue University and Cenfotec University. ....
