April is National Poetry Month, and there are so many ways to celebrate – the most obvious of which is to check out a book of poetry. National Poetry Month was started in April 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to remind the public that poetry matters and the role that it plays in our culture. Poetry is designed to open the door to real life and to emotions, whether those emotions are love, sadness, fear or humor. I, for one, am not a poet. My attempts at writing poetry have been sad at best. That being said, I do appreciate a good poem written by someone else. I very much appreciate humorous poetry, which I first discovered as a child. Green River Star - Mary Louise (MaryLou) Unguren Mary Louise (MaryLou) Unguren passed away December 25, 2020 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County following a brief illness. She was born on May 21, 1930, the oldest daughter of Rudolph and Louise (Shuster) Anselmi. She attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated as valedictorian with the Rock Springs High School class of 1948. After high school she attend the University of Wyoming where she studied business and was affiliated with the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. For decades, the Woman’s Club of Rock Springs has been decorating Christmas trees for both libraries in Rock Springs. In recent years, the tradition of creating and collecting ornaments has gone on hiatus, however, this year the ladies got together and decked out three trees at the Rock Springs Historical Museum. Using decorations from years past, they put together three trees for the community to enjoy while visiting the museum.
