Jose, we are very unhealthy. Whats the problem with this smoke . Why cant we get it to clear out . A couple of things we are looking at here. The main thing is the wind. The surface wind is taking the smoke. Continually smoke from the north to the south that past several days. The winds are relatively light. Lets take it one step further. I think this is really going to explain this for us. It is all about whats known as an in versiversion layer. It is warm air higher up in the atmosphere. Then on top of that you have some cooler air surfacing thats pushing the air right on down towards ground level. So we have High Pressure producing this and colder air at the surface and all of that thats getting stuck down here across the bay area. But, i am tracking two different systems thatll help potentially stir up the air. Well have more details on that coming up in about 15 minutes. Very good graphic. Good explanation, jeff. It is an eye ....
Of the road man to dev moving a burning quickly. We have had a photographer on the scene overnight gathering that video and getting the stories and spoke with folks burned trying to escape the fire and heard people gathering the belongings, taking photographs of the inside and outside and belongings to document what they have in case there is any damage from this fire. It is important to note that this all stems from the lightning that we had a couple days ago, that lightning struck some very dry brush creating this fire and thats where we are right now. Take a listen to someone working to escape this fire here in ive never evacuated before. But why this time . Because it was it was coming hard and fast and winds probably 45 miles per hour. Reporter and i can tell you the smoke out here very, very heavy. You cant see the flames. They look like fire flies in the distance but that fire still burning out here smoke very thick. There are cars covered with ash and looks like 5,000 outages a ....
Protection program was set to expire the senate votes to extend it. Today in the bays alex barr and what congress is going to do now. Reporter laura, this was a bit of a surprise that this extension was agreed to last night since theres not often a lot of bipartisan agreement in washington these days. This is one of these issues important enough. Lets be clear whats being extended is the deadline to apply. So now that deadline will be extended until august 8th. So that allows any Small Businesses with fewer than 500 employees that have not yet asked for this aid to jump in and request it. Whats kind of interesting is theres still 130 billion left in the pot to be distributed to Small Businesses. Thats a little surprising because early on this money was just flying out of the coffers and congress had to pass another installment to reinstate the money there. Theres question ....
This is a tale of two states. Northern california and Southern California. Here are the rankings. The top five counties with the highest number covid19 cases all in Southern California. Los angeles, riverside, san diego, orange county, san bernardino. Thats 71 of all of californias covid19 cases. Meanwhile the bay area counties make up just 11 . So how do you explain the divide . Its hard to say why. Some of this is luck but i think we have to assume it has mostly to do with behavioral differences. In orange county, the Public Health officer was criticized so badly for enforcing mandatory masks, she ended up quitting. In the bay area there happen been any major outcry against mandatory masks. I dont think were in any danger. We need to keep a close eye on it. If we have to, shut it down a bit. Here are a couple ....
And we thank you for making us part of your morning. Good morning to you. Thanks so much for joining us. Im laura garcia. And im Marcus Washington. Mike is keeping an eye on that commute. He will tell us what we need to know before we head out the door, and right now we want to start with meteorologist kari hall who has a look at that forecast for us, what we can expect. Kari, with that sun rise behind you, im seeing sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Yes, its going to be warm as we head to the weekend. Were looking at a little bit of a break for some of us. This is a view from the cupertino hills. Most of our temperatures are in the mid50s but we go from there to the low 80s today. I think pretty much throughout the whole afternoon you can enjoy some time outside with a good amount of comfort as we look at our temperatures with livermore reaching 86 and some mid60s in San Fr ....
