Tres Amigos Opens Next Week, Julep Reopens on Derby Day

Tres Amigos Cafe y Cantina, 3402 N. Shepherd, will open April 22 in the space which formerly housed Shepherd Park Draught House. The new restaurant comes from Delicious Concepts Restaurant Group. It s the vision of CEO Ken Bridge who got the idea years ago when he approached his friends Stewart Skloss, founder of Pura Vida Tequila, and ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons about finding a place to showcase his extensive collection of ZZ Top memorabilia. Bridge has been collecting items from the Houston band since childhood and has amassed a number of items that pay tribute to one of his favorite bands.

This restaurant won t only be for beer drinkers and hellraisers, though you could bet they ll be welcome.  (Robot Noodle, Millie s Kitchen & Cocktails, Ready Room, Mapojeong Galbijib) announced Tuesday that its Shepherd Park Draught House is out, and going in will be Tres Amigos Cafe y Cantina. The Garden Oaks restaurant is a collaboration between Delicious Concepts s Ken and Christina Bridge, Pura Vida Tequila founder Stewart Skloss, and Billy Gibbons, lead singer and guitarist of legendary Houston rockers ZZ Top.

On a more promising note, Houstonians demonstrated their interest in supporting restaurants by dining in both as soon as they were legally allowed to do so and on patios even in the height of summer. Hidden Omakase Soon, Tres Tacos Now, Morningstar Will Depart

Hidden Omakase, 5353 W. Alabama, is shooting to make its debut December 15. The tasting menu-only restaurant comes from Japanese chef Billy Kin, most recently executive chef and partner at Blackbird Izakaya, a Japanese pub and restaurant Kin opened with Ken Bridge of Delicious Concepts. Blackbird closed this past July. Robot Noodle, another concept from Bridge, has taken its place. Kin is a graduate of the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at University of Houston. Kin comes from a restaurant family with a grandfather owning restaurants in Japan and his father operating restaurants in Taiwan and San Francisco, where Kin was born. After completing his degree, Kin began cooking professionally in Houston and studied under Takehiko Fuse in Austin. When Blackbird Izakaya closed, the chef took time off to start a family.
