NORFOLK, Va. A city engineer who fatally shot 12 people in a Virginia Beach municipal building in 2019 “was motivated by perceived workplace grievances” that “he fixated on for years,” according to findings released by the FBI on Wednesday.
The investigation, conducted by the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, found that DeWayne Craddock “struggled with how he perceived his own work performance and how others at work viewed him.” ....

NORFOLK, Va. – A city engineer who fatally shot 12 people in a Virginia Beach municipal building in 2019 “was motivated by perceived workplace grievances” that “he fixated on for years,” according to findings released by the FBI on Wednesday.
The investigation, conducted by the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, found that DeWayne Craddock “struggled with how he perceived his own work performance and how others at work viewed him.”
“The shooter’s inflated sense of self-importance contributed to this conflict and led him to believe he was unjustly and repeatedly criticized and slighted,” the FBI said in a news release. “Violence was viewed by the shooter as a way to reconcile this conflict and restore his perverted view of justice.” ....

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, and businesses at the Oceanfront as well as the rest of the City of Virginia Beach are preparing for crowds, especially since COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted on Friday, May 28.
On Wednesday, the city sent out a press release with information to help residents and tourists ahead of the holiday weekend.
“We are anxious to celebrate together and want everyone — residents and visitors — to enjoy themselves,” said Mayor Robert M. “Bobby” Dyer. “With more people and greater activity comes our responsibility to increase our enforcement efforts, especially in the areas of public safety, parking and cleanliness. Because it has been a while since we have been able to gather in large groups, we want to make sure we get the word out about what the city ....
