MISHAWAKA â What started as a discussion about a tax abatement request turned into a science lesson on ways to control odors from the WellPet facility. Mishawakaâs Common Council called a meeting this week with WellPet, the longtime pet food facility at 1011 W. 11th St., near Marian High school, over the companyâs future request for tax abatement for a new odor control system. Company officials say the $3.5 million system would be more efficient than current control methods. Odors from the pet food plant â which began in 1972 as Eagle Products and was purchased in 2009 by WellPet â have been a constant source of complaints from neighbors who live near the facility. ....
