(11) Union Academy Cardinals defeated the (4) North Duplin Rebels in game one of the 1A NCHSAA championship game. Cardinal seniors, Riley Griffin and Gracie Hollingsworth hit home runs to propel the Cardinals to a, 13-3 victory and secure game one.
After a convincing win in Game 1 on Friday night, Union Academy closed out the series with a 7-4 win over North Duplin in Game 2 on Saturday at NC State University.
The Eastern Alamance Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Cardinals in the regional championship game, 4-1. Molly Widderich scored two goals for the Eagles, sending the program back to the 3A state finals.
In game three of the regional finals, the (3) South Granville Vikings defeated the (21) Camden County Bruins 2-0, winning the series 2-1. Vikings' pitcher Brendan Chamberlain pitched a complete game with four strikeouts. Michael Allen finished with an RBI extending the Vikings' lead to 2-0.
The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders defeated the Middle Creek Mustangs, 11-10, in sudden death overtime with a goal by Brown Parker to send the Crusaders to the NCHSAA championship game.
