The Broughton Capitals defeated the Apex Cougars 18-5 in the first round of the NCHSAA Lacrosse championships. The Capitals finished in second place in the CAP 6 conference and the Cougars finished fifth in the Southwest Wake conference. Mason King and Robert Walker combined eight goals for the Capitals.
Ayden-Grifton defeated SouthWest Edgecombe 9-8 on Thursday night. The Cougars were undefeated 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference heading into the matchup. Cougars' Ramzie Bryant hit a three-run home run, and Chargers' Aaliyah Williams sparked the Chargers' comeback with a big RBI single in the fifth inning.
The Middle Creek Mustangs lost 4-1 to the Wake Forest Cougars Thursday afternoon on day one of the Boneyard Tournament hosted at the Corinth Holders baseball field. Carson Crider finished the night with eight strikeouts. Two RBIs by Steven Crater helped seal the win for the Cougars.
The D.H. Conley Vikings were undefeated (8-0) coming into the ballgame Friday night. But the Chapel Hill Tigers' stellar defense gave the Vikings their first loss, 2-1.
In a game that saw both teams hold leads in the final minutes, it was (1) Farmville Central that claimed the 76-67 win over (2) Goldsboro. The win sends Farmville Central back to the state championship game for the fifth consecutive season.
