Auckland dealership must refund man $14k after selling previously written-off car

Clemens returned the car to the dealer, which replaced the tyres and fixed the other faults before handing it back to him in May.
In July, Clemens paid $650 for further repairs, then tried to sell the car on Trade Me, according to the decision.
“He says that he was then told by potential buyers that the vehicle had previously been de-registered, which caused him to believe that the vehicle may previously have been in an accident.”
In October, the car was taken to South Auckland Motors, a Ford franchise, after Clemens noticed steam coming from the engine.
The franchise found a raft of further issues, including a hole in the coolant line, a “severe” oil leak, a “large dent” in the muffler, missing underbody trays, and a broken sway bar link. The mechanics believed that to be a “long-standing fault”, the tribunal heard. ....
