So this is a photograph of the lynching that occurred august 7, 1930 in marion, indiana. James cameron to a 16 was supposed be the third person hanging from the tree but he survived the lynching. His friends, abe and tommy, were killed that day by a mob estimate between ten ten and 10 angry whites. Often misidentified as 1000 lynching. It it was a northcentral indiana when the lynching took place. So y we ended up writing a book that he called a time of he actually started to write those when he was in jail awaiting his trial and then when he is finally convicted and sent to prison he finished writing the book. I want to show you some books that we have in our collection that were very special to Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln whenraham he was elected president in 1860, its not as if he was entirely unknown. He was a four term member of the legislature. He had served a term in congress. He was one of the most prominent politicians from the state of illinois. In large part, that popularity was due to his very successful debates against stephen a douglas, sitting senator on the democratic side in 1858. Abraham lincoln challenged him in illinois for that senate seat. They debated. Onee hourlong public debate several different occasions during that campaign season. They cooperated in the early 1900s to create the harleydavidson motorcycle. Came from a moment in time in the early 1900s. Personal transportation was undergoing a revolution with the end of the horse and carriage and the rise of the bicycle and small, internalcombustion motors. Harley davidson was founded not necessarily as a Motorcycle Company, but really a Motor Company. When you look at the name of the company, it is harleydavidson Motor Company. There were really the business of providing transportation solutions. And one of the first was a motorized bicycle, essentially a prototype motorcycle.
