A donation of €500,000 by the Luise and Henrik Kuningas Foundation (Luise och Henrik Kuningas stiftelse) has helped, among other things, to promote clinical research which transformed the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumours and establish a GIST laboratory dedicated to cytological research. The laboratory applies a new kind of cell culture technique based on cellulose for GIST cells. When a rarer form of cancer competes for funding against more common cancer types, the rarer form is often overshadowed.
