To the legal world what does all of this mean for the case in washington state where a judge ruled the fda may not roll back access to mifepristone for patients across 17 states and d.c. it s a great question because it s one of the things the justice department had tried to highlight for the court to say, look, how are we supposed to comply with these conflicting rulings at the same time, so if the supreme court decides to maintain the status quo, maintain the stay, which is what the justice department wants, it may not say anything about the washington decision at all because that s the decision that says the fda has to maintain the status quo, and so the supreme court would be doing the same thing. if for whatever reason the supreme court declines the justice department s request and actually lifts the stay, then you will see a real conflict, and you would imagine that the court will have to say something about that washington decision but that s something to keep your eye on. of
