Interview: Thomas Vinterberg on Another Round and Mads Mikkelsen

Alerts One month ago, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences announced the nominations for this year’s delayed, pandemic-era Oscars. If there was one true surprise on the list read by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas, it was in the historically competitive Best Director race. There, among expected names like David Fincher and newly minted Directors Guild Of America Award winner Chloé Zhao, was someone more unexpected: the veteran Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, who joins the relatively small (butthankfullygrowing!) list of filmmakers to score a nomination in this category for helming a foreign-language film. Almost none of the Oscar bloggers and award-season prognosticators saw it coming.

27 Movies to Stream When You Need a Good Cry

27 Movies to Stream When You Need a Good Cry Screenshot: The Iron Giant/Warner Bros. (Fair Use) The past year has inundated us with so many horrors untold lives needlessly lost to a virus allowed to proliferate unchecked, so many others forever damaged by the ongoing pandemic of racism, not to mention the ever-present specters of economic uncertainty and looming climate disaster I won’t fault you if you’ve become numb to the horrors in your daily news feed. Some problems are so immensely sad, so seemingly unfixable, that shedding tears over them can seem fruitless. But crying is important repressing all of our emotions is bad, actually? which is why sometimes you need to look to the movies for an assist.

City On A Hill recap: Season 2, Episode 2, "I Need A Goat"

2 Near the top of that list is frenemy Decourcy Ward, who is convinced Jackie dropped the comatose Holly Gunner on the steps of St. Eligius hospital. When Jackie gets wind of Ward’s interest, his response is to make it personal by digging for dirt. He tracks down a law school friend of Decourcy’s, who points him toward his rival’s old flame, Sierra Mills, a wealthy white banker. He thinks he’s hit paydirt when he learns Sierra had an abortion, but his source throws cold water on that potential piece of blackmail, telling him that Sierra’s father ordered the procedure Ward didn’t find out about until it was over.

The Walking Dead review: A routine mission ends with a surprise

Well, that was bracing. For most of “One More,” it seems as though we’re going to just be doing another gloss on the whole “Are people still worth saving? Is there still beauty in the world?” shtick The Walking Dead has done a hundred times before. (That might not even be hyperbole at this point.) Guest star Robert Patrick is there, playing a menacing guy who has taken Gabriel and Aaron prisoner, and is forcing them to play Russian roulette, with one caveat: They can point the gun at themselves or the other man, and pull the trigger. He wants them to keep going until one of the two is dead, assuming one will eventually shoot the other, out of some misguided idea that this will prove a point about how there’s only bad folks left, or whatever. But Gabriel and Aaron refuse to give in. “You weren’t always like this; none of us were,” one tells the man, kindly. “We’re good people!” the other insists, swearing that if he’ll just put the gun down, they can take
