Hello and welcome to our special coverage here on bbc news, as we mark 20 years on from the terror attacks on new york and washington, attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people and that have forever been known by the date on which they happened 9/11. Commemorations will be taking place in manhattan and across the united states, to remember all those killed and injured. 0ur north america editor jon sopel has been hearing the stories of three people impacted by the horror of september the 11th, and a warning his report includes footage of the attack on the twin towers. The one thing that time hasn t dulled is just how profoundly shocking the sights and sounds were that tuesday morning two decades ago. This terrorist attack changed the world. Things that a 14yearold doesn t usually get to do, so yeah. Absolutely. And the flexibility, being a military child, you know, from birth till now, for the 14 years that sydney s been with us, it has been absolutely amazing. We just we try to remain flexible. We try to prepare any time we can. We re always looking ahead, what do we need for this week so we can knock those barriers down so that we re ready when the day comes and we can be flexible. Honestly we laugh a lot, we joke a lot because it helps us get through, and we definitely try to stay in touch with one another as often as we can. We try to talk to dad any time he can. He and sydney since he left, they have a weekly skype session with each other where they sit and talk with each other. That s been absolutely amazing, especially when you re a teenage girl, being that connected with your dad. And so that s been really wonderful. That s amazing. Well, he s on a combat tour. Technology is wonderful for these things these days.
