Due to public-health restrictions and periodic school closures, 2020 was a challenging year for child abuse investigators, the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board heard at their April 20 meeting.
The annual report – part of an overall presentation involving multiple departments in the service – stated it had been a different year working with children and families since the global pandemic changed the way officers conducted investigations.

Sgt. Steve Kloostra, who supervises the team, said the statistics showed there had been an impact, which he noted other jurisdictions likely experienced.
