Known as lamian, noodles stretched by hand are said to have a silky and chewy texture. Restaurant broker Jean Seguin observes that there are only a few spots in Vancouver where Chinese noodles are made by hand. “Few do the actual hand pulling,” Seguin told the Straight. There used to be one such place in Kitsilano, the Mi Mary’s Noodle and Liquor Bar. However, the 3188 Macdonald Street establishment closed in December 2020. ....

In the 2019 edition of the paper’s Golden Plates edition, the Gastown restaurant made it to the top three of the most popular barbecue places in town. Named after the late Sam Peckinpah, a legendary American filmmaker known for gritty movies like The Wild Bunch and The Getaway, the establishment opened in 2010. Restaurant designer Ryan Murfitt and restaurateur Tyson Reimer created Peckinpah out of a space at the Byrnes Block, a heritage building. ....
