Fans who listened to Britney Spears’ conservatorship hearing last month will need to find another way to get updates on the pop star’s next hearing Wednesday.
Spears dialed in via phone to her last hearing and Los Angeles courts allowed many people to listen in but what they didn’t prepare for was an onslaught of people recording and then distributing Spears’ testimony.
Technically, recording and/or presenting trial material like Spears’ testimony to the public without a judge’s permission is illegal under California Code of Civil Procedure section 1209. While it’s unclear if anyone who recorded Spears’ remarks will face consequences, L.A. County courts quickly and quietly took steps to ensure the contents of future hearings aren’t leaked.

L.A. Courts Will End Audio Broadcasts Following Britney Spears Statement Against Conservatorship
Britney Spears‘ statement against conservatorship has set off a motion to end remote audio broadcasts in the Los Angeles court system.
According to a new report (via THR), courts are officially ending the broadcasts.

It didn’t take long for the judge to shut down the remote audio after
Britney‘s statement either.
The audio broadcast system was launched during the pandemic year of 2020, as a response to the pandemic.

The 2019 California Rules of Court read: Any violation of this rule or an order made under this rule is an unlawful interference with the proceedings of the court and may be the basis for an order terminating media coverage, a citation for contempt of court, or an order imposing monetary or other sanctions as provided by law.
