leader to retreat. yevgeny prigozhin, the head of the wagner mercenary group, has been pictured apparently leaving the russian city of rostov on don along with his troops. only yesterday a heavily armed column of wagner troops was heading from rostov on don towards moscow, where defences were being prepared. those troops got to around 300 miles south of the russian capital. then, at around 6.30pm uk time, prigozhin announced that he had agreed to stop the advance, in a deal brokered by the belarusian leader. with all the details, here s our eastern europe correspondent sarah rainsford. mutineers cheered as heroes. this crowd are shouting wagner, the name of the mercenary group that led me to putin had said treason a couple of hours earlier. in a day of high drama. the wagner group had rolled into rostov on saturday morning, leasing attacks on city streets and taking over a military command post for the ukraine war. there, wagner s boss was filmed haranguing senior ....
over the last couple of hours in the middle east. middle east hamas says its deputy leader has been killed in an explosion in lebanon. hezbollah says his kidding will not go unanswered . saleh al arouri was deputy chairman of hamas s political bureau but is also known to have been deeply involved in its military affairs. hamas is designated a terrorist organisation by many western governments. this is the aftermath of the explosion thought to be hamas office in beirut. reports six people killed. local media have described this as an israeli drone attack. the bbc hasn t verified that. the israeli military has told the bbc that it will not comment on reports in the foreign media. the un has described the beirut strike as extremely worrying . a spokesperson for the un secretary general. we know that the secretary general urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint and take urgent steps to de escalate tensions in the region. i mean, he was very clear in mentioning t ....
