Apr 22, 2021 Cabinet Approves Changes to Public Officer Salaries The details of Wednesday’s cabinet meeting were released late this afternoon. The big news is that the Minister of the Public Service, Henry Charles Usher, will proceed to fix the salaries of public officers due to the deteriorated state of public finances. To soften the blow, cabinet agreed to grant a land credit to the affected public officers that’s equivalent to fifty percent of the salary adjustment. This may be used when they acquire land from the government. In relation to a story making the news this week, cabinet has ordered that there be a review of a lease agreement signed by Edmond Castro, the former minister responsible for ports, and Recological Systems Limited for twenty-five years. Apr 20, 2021 Commerce Bight Fiasco Continues The saga involving Commerce Bight, Recological Systems Limited and the company’s investors continues with a response to several allegations that were made last week against R.S.L. and its present owners. On Monday, Managing Director Paul Martin issued a statement refuting a number of claims that were made during a press conference hosted by siblings Abraham and Heinrich Frose. The brothers allege that they were stiffed out of two million dollars in investments that were to be used to develop the defunct port facility. The document includes thirteen points in which Martin counters all the assertions that were made against him and R.S.L. by Alan Gobie and the Frose brothers. He even makes bold assertions attacking the credibility of Indira Mejia who appeared at last Thursday’s press brief at the Biltmore on behalf of the Froses.
