SEATTLE Alaska Airlines will limit animals allowed on flights to trained service dogs early next year, following relaxed federal guidance. The Seattle-based airline announced the change Tuesday, barring emotional support animals for reservations booked after Jan. 11, 2021, and on all flights after Feb. 28.
Earlier in the year, the U.S. Department of Transportation dropped a requirement for airlines to provide the same accommodations for emotional support animals as those mandated for formally trained dogs. According to Alaska, the decision followed feedback from airlines and disability advocates that reported behavior that caused injuries, damage and other hazards on flights. ....

In two weeks time, no pot-bellied pigs, miniature horses or peacocks will be welcome on board Alaska Airlines flights amid an industry-wide crackdown on emotional support animals.
The Seattle-based air carrier on Tuesday announced changes to its service animal policy, stating that beginning on January 11, the airline will no longer allow any emotional support animals on its flights.
Alaska will only transport service dogs, which are specially trained to perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, the airline said in a press release. ....

Alaska Airlines announced on Tuesday that it will no longer allow passengers to bring emotional support animals on its aircraft for any reservations made after January 11. Alaska Airlines will only allow trained service dogs to fly on its planes in 2021. 
A new Department of Transportation rule takes effect on January 11, 2021, that defines a service animal as a trained dog and gives airlines the flexibility to limit which animals they allow onboard.
Airlines have been looking to close the emotional support animal loophole for years after onboard incidents with the often untrained animals. 
Alaska Airlines is adding emotional support animals to its no-fly list.
Starting on January 11, 2021, only trained service dogs will be allowed to fly on Alaska as the airline is cracking down on a loophole that s allowed flyers to fly with a menagerie of animals, as long as they were given the loose designation of an emotional support animal.   ....
