josi with how today s windows made that fire tricky. reporter: heather, it was here along highway 7, this is called light flashy fuel and it does burn in a flash. flames whipped up really fast. this video comes from a resident across the freeway, who started shooting even as engines arrived. startled by how big the flames grew. they were at least 20 at one point. and they actually got really close to the firemen themselves. crews had a hard time getting in front of it to stop the fire. reporter: a hard time because of 20 miles per hour wind gusts. the fire jumped a walking trailheading towards home homes at the top. even with more engines, 50 firefighters and water drops from a helicopter, final acres were blackened between the exit and capital expressway. at one time we had several homes in danger and we got fire crews in front of those homes and we were able to put the fire out. it has happened before, so we re not surprised. reporter: residents say the same
