Surat: Industry leaders of Surat have requested that one of the seven mega investment textile parks of the country announced by the central government be set up in Surat.
The request was raised during an open house meeting with the industries commissioner Rahul Gupta and M. Thennarsan, vice-chairman and managing director of GIDC in the city on Wednesday. The team of industries department was on a one-day tour to Surat to discuss various issues with the stakeholders.
Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta, additional chief secretary, industries, said, “The textile and diamond hub Surat is witnessing rapid industrial development. We are working proactively to ensure that some of the big and world-class projects like DREAM City, world’s largest diamond bourse and others are completed in the time-bound manner and all issues of various stakeholders are ironed out.”

The Gujarat government on late Wednesday night carried out a large scale reshuffle in the state’s top bureaucracy with appointment of new secretaries in the crucial departments like home, industries, revenue, energy etc.
As many as 18 senior IAS officials of the State were transferred while seven officers have been promoted to the secretary level.
Accordingly, senior IAS Pankaj Kumar has been posted as new Additional Chief Secretary of Home department while Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta has been made new ACS of Industries and Mines.
Both are 1986 batch IAS officers of Gujarat cadre. Their batch mate Vipul Mittra has been made ACS of Panchayats department.
CoWin shows vaccination successful without giving jab
In the midst of the coronavirus crisis and consequent vaccine hesitancy, senior officers of Mohali district in Punjab have set an example by starting a philanthropy initiative by adopting a village to sponsor vaccine for an entire population between 18 and 44 years from their pocket.
They have adopted Masol village, some 30 km from the district headquarters, where the 45 plus population has already been vaccinated, said Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan, who led the first-of-its-kind initiative.
Dayalan along with other officers Additional Deputy Commissioners Aashika Jain and Rajiv Kumar Gupta and Sub-divisional Magistrates Himanshu Jain, Kuldeep Bawa and Jagdeep Sehgal have decided to bear the vaccination.
