Mamata Banerjee set for a third term as TMC heads for a landslide victory
According to the Election Commission, as of 11:30 pm, out of 292 seats in the West Bengal Assembly election, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC has won on 197 seats and is leading on 17. BJP, on the other hand, is leading on 9 seats, and has won on 67 seats.

Battle for Nandigram ends, BJP s Suvendu wins by 1956 votes
After a fight that went down to the last round of counting, battle for Nandigram ends with BJP s Suvendu Adhikari winning by 1,956 votes.
From heavyweight leaders to celebrities, stakes are high in the fourth phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections that will be held on Saturday. In Phase-IV, 44 constituencies from the districts of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Howrah, Hooghly and South 24 Parganas are going to polls. A total of 1,15,81,022 electorates will decide the fate of 373 candidates in this phase. Among the most high-profile contests, one is the Tollygunge constituency, where BJP has fielded Union Minister Babul Supriyo against sitting TMC MLA Aroop Biswas. Biswas, also a minister in the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal cabinet has been representing the Tollygunge Assembly constituency for the last three terms. Worth mentioning, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan campaigned for TMC candidate Aroop Biswas. CPI(M) has fielded Debdut Ghosh from the seat.

From an anti-industry movement that catapulted Mamata Banerjee to power, Singur has come to symbolise new aspiration in Bengal Fourteen years after he spearheaded the movement against land acquisition for Tatas’ small car plant in Singur, 90-year-old Rabindranath Bhattacharjee – once considered Mamata Banerjee’s lieutenant – now, BJP’s MLA aspirant in the region is batting for industry and jobs.
Clad in white kurta, dhoti and slippers, the man – the oldest person in Bengal’s electoral politics this year – says his former party “frittered away a people’s mandate” to become a “den of corruption”. Today’s need of the hour, in Singur and elsewhere, is jobs and industrialisation, something that he alleges is the least of priorities for the Trinamool Congress.
