PA teachers pension system embroiled in controversy. What to know.

Pennsylvania State Capital Bureau
Pennsylvania’s Public School Employees’ Retirement System has been embroiled in controversy, and a miscalculation could have thousands of members in the system start to contribute more to their retirement funds in July.
Here s an explanation of what happened and what it means:
What’s PSERS?
PSERS has more than 500,000 members, about half of them teachers, and should not be confused with SERS, which is the State Employees Retirement System that has far fewer retirees.
Currently, PSERS is valued at about $64 billion.
A 15-member board oversees PSERS.
Board members include the state secretaries of banking and securities, and education; the treasurer; an appointee of the governor (currently vacant); five retired or working system members; two school board representatives; two state House members, one from each party; and two state Senate members, one from each party.   ....

The executive branch would be removed from its role in the constitutional amendment process going forward under legislation that won House State Government Committee approval on Monday.
Lawmakers said the failure of Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration to advertise one constitutional amendment, and its controversial wording of two others this year, provided enough reason for a change.
Republicans and Democrats overwhelming voted in favor of the bill, which proposes to amend the constitution.
Rep. Jason Ortitay, R-Allegheny County, sponsored the legislation, which would take the responsibility of writing and advertising a proposed constitutional amendment away from the Department of State and hand it to the House chief clerk or Senate secretary. ....

Some state and federal lawmakers are holding tight to their view that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court improperly interfered in the 2020 election, further escalating tensions between the legislative and judicial branches that’s existed for years.
Simply tune into media outlets that cater to the conservative base, and you’ll find Pennsylvania’s handling of the election is still a hot topic. In late March, state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Adams County) talked about it with former President Donald Trump’s one-time lawyer, Jenna Ellis, on her Real America’s Voice TV show. ....
