Newark Advocate Union Ridge Solar, a subsidiary of Leeward Renewable Energy, announced plans to construct the solar field near the AEP Kirk substation on Watkins Road, on farm property north of Refugee Road, west of York Road, south of Blacks Road and on both sides of Watkins Road. “It’s our discretion whether to create an Alternate Energy Zone for the project,” County Commissioner Tim Bubb said. “We’ve met with Leeward and we’re familiar with this project. We don’t see any downside. There’s no reason not to move forward. “We’re growing megawatts instead of corn out there. You don’t have to water it and it makes electricity.” ....
Newark Advocate HARRISON TOWNSHIP A proposed 108-megawatt solar field would provide enormous financial benefits to the community and have limited impact on the environment or neighbors, the company said in a virtual meeting Thursday night. Union Ridge Solar, a subsidiary of Leeward Renewable Energy, said the solar field on 515 acres of Harrison Township farmland would require no clearing of the site, create no chemical runoff, no dust, no odors, no glare off the panels onto adjacent properties, negligible noise, limited water use, no zoning change and no negative impact on property values and or electric rates. “We are very sensitive to impacts to neighbors, LRE vice president of development John Wieland said.
