Feb 15, 2021 MATTAPOISETT Learn more about Paul Cuffe, South Coast mariner, entrepreneur, and philanthropist with a Mattapoisett Library discussion from authors David Cole and Betty Slade about their book, “Paul Cuffe: His Purpose, Partners and Properties.” Cuffe, a man born on Cuttyhunk Island in 1759 to a formerly enslaved West African father and Wampanoag mother, built a business empire that included shipping along the Atlantic coast and shipbuilding in Westport, Massachusetts. Join the Mattapoisett Free Public Library and moderator Corey Nuffer on Saturday, February 27th at 2 p.m. for a glimpse into Cuffe’s life through the eyes of Cole and Slade. ....
Jan 22, 2021 Julia Kelly, author of The Last Garden in England, will host a talk with the Mattapoisett Library about her book via Zoom on Feb. 3, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Kelly, an International bestselling author, showcased her gift for sharing richly detailed stories and the power of friendships and womanhood in The Light Over London and The Whispers of War. This January, Kelly returns with a tale of five women living across three different times whose lives are all connected by one very special garden. In addition to writing, Kelly has been an Emmy–nominated producer, journalist, marketing professional, and (for one summer) a tea waitress. Kelly called Los Angeles, Iowa, and New York City home before settling in London. ....
