New art gallery His Daughter Paloma opens Saturday in Lenox

For gallery owner-director Justin Carafotes, His Daughter Paloma at 26 Church St. in Lenox is not simply a place to show and sell art. Itâs a place to celebrate the collaborative nature of art not only among the artists exhibiting there, but between the artists and their audience â buyers and collectors for sure, but, just as important for Carafotes, those who simply want to come and look; experience a variety of contemporary art up close and personal.

This sign is about Terrence Franklin, who was a neighbor of mine, says Witt Siasoco.
Siasoca is a community based artist, who once called Franklin a neighbor and a friend.
For 13 years, I lived across the street and developed a relationship with Terrence and 8 years ago he was murdered by police in a South Minneapolis basement, he says. ....

Minneapolis' late-lamented Intermedia Arts writes its final chapter – a $1 million check

The saga of Intermedia Arts, the Minneapolis multigenre venue that served marginalized communities for decades before running into fiscal trouble four years ago, is coming to a quiet, almost storybook close.
After selling its building near the trendy Lyn-Lake district and paying off debts, the organization donated $1 million to help Artspace, the nonprofit developer, acquire the Northrup King Building as a crown jewel for the northeast Minneapolis arts scene.
Now, for its final act, Intermedia is giving its remaining $1 million to a like-minded Minneapolis arts organization, Public Functionary.
Let me tell you, it s been a long four years, said Omar Akbar, Intermedia s co-president. But this is fantastic news because we were able to preserve some of the value of the organization, rather than have it keep down a path to bankruptcy and a slow, ugly death. ....
