XYS Activates the PI3K/Akt Pathway
Network pharmacology suggested that the PI3k/Akt pathway was the main mechanism of action in IS treatment by XYS. Therefore, we evaluated the effect of XYS on the mRNA and protein expression of PI3k and Akt in PC12 cells. OGD/R inhibited mRNA expression of PI3K and Akt significantly in PC12 cells (Figures 9 and 10). Compared with the normal group, although protein expression of PI3K and Akt did not change significantly, phosphorylation of PI3K and Akt was inhibited significantly. Fortunately, XYS therapy could reverse this inhibition. These results indicated that the PI3k/Akt pathway was involved in the anti-IS action of XYS. ....

3D-Printed Models Explain Body's Fight Against COVID-19

Editor’s note: In this interview, Nathan Ahlgren, assistant professor of biology at Clark University, uses 3D-printed models to explain what proteins do in viruses, how they interact with human cells, how the vaccine delivers mRNA into the cell, and how antibodies protect us. This follows an earlier article in which he explained what proteins are and the wide range of functions they have in the body.
What do proteins do in a virus? What else is in a virus?
All of life has proteins. So human cells have proteins, and the same is true for viruses, even though they’re very different from the cells in our body. A virus is made up of two main things – a protein shell and genetic material. ....
