senator lindsey graham plans to fight the subpoena. o figh good morning. and welcome to way too early. on this thursday, july 7th. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for being with us. we have a lot to get to this morning. but we begin with breaking news from overseas. we re following reports that british prime minister boris johnson may resign today. this news comes amid a wave of resignations in his government and calls for him to step down. and taking a look at the famed front door there at 10 downing street in london. downing street spokesperson told nbc news that the prime minister will make a statement to the country later today. joining us now live from downing street, we have nbc news senior reporter alexander smith. thanks for hustling to be there for us this morning. what s the latest, what can you tell us about the situation there? this is really an extraordinary and unprecedented situation now. we have widespread reports that prime minister boris johnson will be
of evidence, of wrongdoing. the white house is calling it an illegitimate and unjustified move from republicans. plus, hill harper is on the ballot in michigan. we will talk to the good doctor after about why he decided to run for the u.s. senate in this critical battleground state. i am symone sanders-townsend, and i have something to say. after a weeklong truce, the fighting has intensified again in the israel-hamas war. more than 700 people have been killed in the gaza strip, according to the hamas-run health ministry, since that truce with israel fell apart on friday. that israel defense forces or idf has shifted its military operations to southern gaza, in order civilians to evacuate. if you remember, just weeks earlier, israel urged gaza residents to evacuate to southern gaza from the north overnight the idf says it targeted weapons stores, command centers, and hamas naval assets. and the destroyed 500 tunnel shafts in civilian areas it says were used by
diligence and making sure that we look at all aspects of the case. and so all you see as a prosecutor doing their due diligence. might we see a subpoena of the former president himself? anything is possible. senator graham s lawyer says he plans to challenge the subpoena that he received from that special grand jury in fulton county. the attorney writes in a statement this, this is all politics, fulton county is engaged in a fishing expedition and working in convert with the january 6th committee in washington. any information from an interview or a deposition with senator graham would immediately be shared with the january 6 committee. the district attorney was asked about that statement, they called the probe a fishing expedition and here is what sheehi to say. what do i have to gain from from this? some inaccurate estimation, that someone doesn t understand the seriousness of what we re doing.
