Photo: Region of Queens Volunteer work has been particularly impactful during the past year and Queens County is recognizing two volunteers in particular for their work. The two volunteers were originally recognized by the Ripple Effect program, which allows Queens residents to nominate individuals they deem worthy. Kendra Shot of Hunts Point, and Ron Shupe of Liverpool, were selected from nine Ripple Effect Volunteer Initiative nominations (representing 12 individuals) received over the past year and named as the Regions Volunteers of the Year. ....
File Photo A weekend long Queens County Festival has been put on hold for the second consecutive year. After a meeting between members of the Privateer Days Commission Board, a unanimous decision was made to cancel the 2021 festival. According to a post on the Privateer Days facebook page, the meeting’s discussion revolved around COVID-19, gathering limits, ability to social distance, and most importantly safety. The board says they felt that due to the uncertainty and inability to guarantee the safety of both participants and spectators, cancelling the event is the right decision. They say while it is disappointing, they look forward to planning for 2022. ....
