A female member of the National Youths Service Corps in Akwa Ibom State, Princess Odume, who was arrested by the police for hacking a man suspected to be her lover to death, on January 10, 2021, has now spent one month in police cell without trial.
SaharaReporters learnt that Odume is still in police custody and it is not clear whether the police have underlying interests other than taking her to court promptly for prosecution.

A young lady, Effiong Laurel Scott, has come out to claim she was raped by the man who was hacked to death by a youth corp member in Akwa Ibom. Recall that on Sunday, January 10, a youth corper named Princess Odume, was apprehended and handed over to the police for allegedly killing a man identified as Japhet Akwaowo. Princess alleged that she killed him in self-defense after he threatened to kill her upon her refusal to oblige his request to remove her clothes so that he could have sex with her. In a video that has now gone viral, Effiong alleged that Japheth also raped her in 2017 when she was 18. She insisted that the youth corper killed the deceased in self-defense. She called on other victims of the deceased to speak up so they can save the youth corper.

Princess Odume, the corps member whom the police nabbed for allegedly killing a man, identified as Japhet Akwaowo in Akwa Ibom on Sunday has disclosed the reason for her action; self-defence
The police spokesperson in the state, Odiko Ogbeche-Macdon, who disclosed this on Tuesday, said that Odume claimed Akwaowo threatened to kill her when she refused to oblige his request to undress so that he could have sex with her.
Ogbechie-Macdon said: “She actually killed the young man identified as Akwaowo Japhet. She said she went to buy bean cake, akara, and saw a man that beckoned to her to come over to him. She said she went to meet him, they got talking and she found herself in his house.

The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State, Julius Amusan, has expressed shock over the news of a youth corps member, Princess Odume, who allegedly killed a man on Sunday.
Odume, who had visited her the man suspected to be her lover, was caught trying to jump over a fence after allegedly cutting the victim with a machete.
