Demolition teams started tearing down the Tower Bowl building on Broadway at Kettner Boulevard 35 years ago this week. With it’s 80-foot steel tower with revolving neon-illuminated bowling balls the building had been a landmark downtown since 1941. It was demolished to make way for One America Plaza.

A lot of people literally want a piece of the Tower Bowl building, a former downtown San Diego bowling center, theater and cocktail lounge that in its heyday was a hub of activity along Broadway but deteriorated into an eyesore.
