joining us now are former special counsel to the general counsel department of defense ryan goodman and rebecca roissy. thank you both for being here on what we said was definitely no shortage of news this morning. i wonder what s your reaction to this first filing that we got from trump s legal team today. it took two weeks for them to get there. and they are now asking for this third party attorney. but i think, we re wondering, if it s too late? it does seem too late. it s two weeks after the search began. so you d actually think it should be filed hours after the search began. and it s a reasonable request in some sense to ask for something like this from a third party. why is it reasonable? it s reasonable, because we might think we don t necessarily trust the way the fbi would conduct it. we want an objective third party institution to view things to sort out what they should have versus what they shouldn t. but the content is as quite bizarre. what they re saying
judge to appoint a special master, an independent third party, to review what the fbi seized at his florida estate. trump also wants a more detailed receipt of what was taken by the feds. and for the government to return any seized documents that were, quote, not within the scope of the search warrant. while trump attempted to get his hands on those records, investigators are trying to track down additional surveillance footage from mar-a-lago. according to the new york times, this marks the second demand for security video of activity around where the documents were stored, leading up to the fbi s search. and, in a cnn exclusive, we have learned the justice department has issued a new grand jury subpoena to the national archives. they want more documents in the investigation into the january 6th attack on the u.s. capitol. let s begin with the fallout from the fbi search of mar-a-lago, cnn s senior crime and justice reporter katelyn polantz following with the latest. kat
and can the federal government do anything to fix it? the transportation secretary is our guest. this is what we re watching at this hour. thank you so much for being here. i m kate bolduan. there are several developing stories we re tracking at this hour. first and foremost, 1 in 100 year flood bringing dallas to a stand fill with more than 9 inches of rain falling in 24 hours. at least one person was killed when her car was swept away by some of the floodwaters. and the threat is not over yet. and in a cnn and washington post exclusive, a whistle-blower complaint from a former top twitter employee claims the social media giant has major security problems that poses a threat to users, company shareholders and national security. and former president donald trump is suing the u.s. government over the fbi search of his home two weeks ago now. his legal team wants an independent third party appointed to review the materials seized by the feds. let s begin with this major wea
post today. they call him senile. they cite his performance at the debate where he couldn t even remember who he was who he impeached. and an up-and-down week on wall street and fears a recession could be around the corner. and so the question right now is can we bring inflation down without triggering a recession. my answer to that question is i don t know. but up first. new cnn reporting on the fall-out from donald trump keeping reams of classified documents at his beach house in mar-a-lago. cnn confirming the national archives retrieved more than 100 classified documents back in january, some 700 pages worth of material. the confirmation comes from a letter from the archives addressed to trump s own attorneys. we are learning that the archives were so concerned about what they uncovered at trump s home that it asked the intelligence community to assess potential damage, if there was any national security risk posed by how the documents were handled and stored. t
th e a trump ally, but, you know, it really does clarify a lot of things for us including the timeline of how these discussions were going on behind the scenes earlier this year. but the fact that there were 700 pages contained here in these 15 boxes taken back from mar-a-lago earlier this year, again, 100 classified documents, some of them in this special access programs type of things, which, again, even if you have classified clearance, the top secret clearance in the united states government, you need additional clearance to be able to access this. it is something that, you know, we were trying to figure out why would you post this letter that all right. the angle that appears to be coming from the trump side, bianna, is that these shows that the biden white house really was involved in the early discussions here in making sure that it was an investigation. that s not really what the letter shows. if you read it carefully you will see that the biden white house was givi
