More than two dozen professors at two Pennsylvania state universities slated for consolidation next year received notices that their jobs are in jeopardy. A 60-day public comment period on a plan to consolidate six of Pennsylvania’s state universities into two institutions is now open.
The State System of Higher Education’s governing board on Wednesday voted 17-2 at a two-hour special meeting to proceed with a public comment period on a proposal to combine Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield universities into one institution and Clarion, California and Edinboro universities.

Two new reports issued Monday shed more light on the proposed consolidation of several of Pennsylvania’s state-owned universities.
The documents available on the State System of Higher Education’s website detail the preliminary plans for creating two consolidated state universities from six universities. The system, which includes 14 universities, is considering the bold changes due to ongoing financial challenges.
