He is contesting from Goibari and Koklabari constituencies | 12 Dec 2020 4:54 PM GMT Guwahati: United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro has won the Koklabari constituency with 3,734 votes in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the results of which are being declared on Saturday. The UPPL gained 23,506 votes, followed by ruling Bodoland People s Front (BPF) with 13,238 votes and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) with 19,772 votes. He has also won the Goibari constituency, as per latest reports. Boro has been serving as the president of UPPL) since February 25, 2020. He was also the former president of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU). Born to Late Ghanashyam Boro, he is a resident of Tamulpur in Baksa district of Assam. ....
BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary casts his vote in Kokrajhar on Thursday GUWAHATI: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) supremo Hagrama Mohilary on Thursday said his party will form the BTC Council for the fourth consecutive term by winning at least 30 of the 40 council constituencies, which went to the polls in two phases. Addressing the media after casting his vote at Debargaon council constituency in Kokrajhar, he said, “We are 100% confident of winning the BTC polls and forming the council by December 15.” He said that BPF will cross the tally of 30, even as BJP heavyweight Himanta Biswa Sarma and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal himself led the high-decibel poll campaign for the council elections, which many are seeing as the “semi-final” before the 2021 Assam elections due early next year. ....
People queue up to cast their votes in Kokrajhar on Thursday GUWAHATI: Stray incidents of violence marked the second and final phase of the Bodoland Territorilal Council (BTC) polls which recorded a polling percentage of 78.8%, which is marginally higher than the first phase figure of 77%. Since morning, long queues were seen outside polling stations and the percentage steadily surged as the day progressed. “The polling has been higher than the first phase though there have been one or two stray incidents. A tentative polling percentage of 78.8% has been recorded. We are waiting for the final figures. The voter turnout was expected,” Assam State Election commissioner Alok Kumar said. ....
