Desmond, AI Trends Editor  The emergence of an advanced plastic manufacturing plant in Brookneal, Va. tells a story about the impact of AI on small manufacturing firms.   Local entrepreneur Hugh E. Williams started American Plastic Fabricators to shape small plastic parts needed by a range of customers. Eventually the company became competitive in the manufacture of polyethylene and high-density plastics fabrication. The plant was visited recently by Kevin Scott, the CTO and executive vice president of AI and research at Microsoft, who grew up with Williams in the area.  On the day Scott visited the plant, one of the workers was using a sophisticated milling machine controlled by a computer to create an intricate piece for Disneylandâs Jumpinâ Jellyfish ride, according to an account in Wired.   ....
BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government is in a fix over the course of action on Election Commission’s recommendation to file criminal cases against everyone named in the CBDT report on the alleged ‘cash in poll’ row as some of the names are directly associated with the ruling party. The probe will be handed over to Economic Offences Wing on Monday, but it’s yet to be decided where an FIR or a preliminary enquiry will be registered, sources say. State chief electoral officer Veera Rana has sent CBDT’s report to general administration department for further proceedings. The 904-page report hints at the role of many individuals in the “widespread and well-organised racket of collection and transaction of unaccounted cash of about Rs 281 crore in MP during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls”. Some of them are now BJP ministers. ....
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission, acting on a report from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) pointing to prima facie role of public/government servants in unauthorised and unaccounted cash transactions in Madhya Pradesh during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, has directed the state chief electoral officer to lodge a criminal case against 3 IPS officers and one officer of the state police, for violations of extant electoral and other laws . EC, after deliberating upon the CBDT report dated October 28, 2020 on its search operations in Madhya Pradesh and its findings of extensive use of unaccounted cash during General Elections 2019 in the state, asked for a criminal complaint to be lodged before the economic offences wing against Sushovan Banerjee (IPS: 1989 batch), Sanjay Mane (IPS: 1989 batch); V Madhu Kumar (IPS: 1991 batch); and Arun Mishra (Madhya Pradesh police).
