lucas tomlinson is here live with the latest. reporter: jon, according to a new fox news poll, 3 out of 4 voters think the economy is getting worse. while eating ice cream in portland this weekend, president biden appeared to disagree. i m not concerned about the [inaudible] i m concerned about the rest of the world. does that make sense? can you explain that? yes. our economy s strong as hell. reporter: a majority of voters, 51%, to be exact, say their financial situation is now worse compared to two years ago. only 15% say it was better. on fox news sunday, congressman steve scalise offered this explanation why: do. they are furious with biden and pelosi s far-left, socialist agenda that has led to just the cost of everything you guy when you go to the grocery store, if you can even afford to put gas in your car. reporter: if the election for president were held today, only 33% of voters would vote to reelect biden. a majority, 54%, would vote for so ....
Election. when a pollster calls you and says how is the economy doing, you know it s really a poll about how your member of congress and the white house is handling the economy. normally we would say, look, 42% of america is going to vote for the current president no matter what, 42% that s going to vote against him, but half that number where they say the economy s fine? that s scary stuff. jon: last poll item i want to bring to your attention, asked whether your family has had to cut back on some necessary the cities, cut back necessities, cut back to afford necessities, 71% say they ve had to cut back a lot. 29%, not much at all. duh but, again, that 71%, they re not going to be happy when they vote in a couple of weeks. that s true, and you know what? i ll put myself in that group that has had to cut back with our family finances this year. it s not going to be ease easy for the white house to explain this away. i think that s scaring some peel ....
and she s really an entertaining speaker. that line about mr. mcconnell would not pass a kidney stone yeah. is she just connects, it seems-w that audience. that s right. i mean, she in that stump speech she seems to really embody kentucky. she s going to be the youngest person running against mitch mcconnell. she s what, 35, i think. mcconnell has been in the senate for something like 30 years. so she s going to cast herself not only as the new kid on the block but a clinton democrat, a new kind of southern democrat. i think it s going to be a really interesting race to watch. i think she s still got an uphill slog. obama only got about 38% of the vote in that state. i d expect her to at least do that. and she ll have to figure out a way of being creative about drawing out some of those really conservative democrats who voted for romney. and she s an experienced statewide campaigner. the polls the other poll item here on mcconnell, disapproval ....
