[laughter] that was a really, really hard to 20 seconds for me. so thank you for cutting it short. it s amazing to be here in my hometown of new york city. i ve got some family here. so, tonight, we re gonna talk about democracy. and that we re in, we ve probably talked more about democracy in the last, you know, for five years than i had in all of my time as a journalist before that, i would say. like, even that is a topic seems a littl
us today who didn t sign up to be heroes but hero yichl is coming to their door? [ applause ] crossing reference, right? so i am energized, i am energized by that but i also feel like for all of us, being a 250-year-old democracy is hard. there aren t that many and the seeds of anti-democratic projects and authoritarian projects are within the heart of every person who lives in a democracy because democracy, like you were saying at the outset, chris, is about us all deciding something together, us as equals with our rights and our sacred lives given to us by the almighty god. and equal before one another can decide together how we will be governed. and that is a beautiful thing, unless you think that some of the people who are in your politie with you shouldn t get a say because they re creeps and who among us has not felt that way?
