Premium Content Sunshine Coast Council is poised to push forward with its plans for coastline protection. The council s Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy is due to be adopted at the May ordinary meeting on Thursday. Formal consultation was undertaken from November 9 to December 7, 2020. The community feedback included the critical role a healthy coastal zone played in underpinning the economy and community identity. Other themes that emerged during consultation included the need for a great focus on maintaining dunal vegetation and buffers as a main defence to rising sea levels and coastal hazards. The feedback also identified a strong desire from many in the community to be involved in ongoing management of the coastal zone and the need for decision making to be based on the best available scientific evidence and assessment of risk .

The 17m landmark near Mooloolaba can be seen from the land, sea and air. Unitywater is now calling on locals to have their say on the future artwork for the site. COVID-19 results for crew members of two tankers off the Queensland coast were expected on Wednesday after Queensland Health sent staff to board the ships and test the workers.
The Inge Kosan and another vessel, the United Grace, were at anchor at the Brisbane outer anchorage off Point Cartwright at Mooloolaba for COVID testing, Maritime Safety Queensland general manager Angus Mitchell said.

Subscriber only A 28-year-old man who was pulled from the water at an unpatrolled Sunshine Coast beach at the weekend is in intensive care. Lifesavers and lifeguards from Mooloolaba and Kawana rescued the man near Point Cartwright on Sunday after several people, in their 20s, were reported to be drifting about 50m offshore from beach access 200 towards beach access 201. A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said lifeguards from Mooloolaba had performed CPR on one of the swimmers until paramedics arrived. The 28-year-old was rushed from Pacific Boulevard at Buddina to Sunshine Coast University Hospital about 4.20pm. A Sunshine Coast University Hospital spokesman on Monday said the man was in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.
