Savanna went along and tried out as a piper.
“The piping was difficult, I didn’t have enough breath to get to it. I lasted a couple of months and went onto drums. A couple of tutors helped me with Tiffany Gilchrist my main tutor.”
She has not looked back.
“There’s a lot of hard work and practice, but I’m not performing with the South Canterbury band during the competition season because I’m so busy with sports, rowing in summer and netball in the winter.”
In 2019, Savanna was invited to join the Nelson-based Celtic Pipe Band which travelled to Scotland and competed in a grade 2 competition in Glasgow. ....
