Monty George has taken his final ride in the traction engine he built. Monty George, a life member of the New Plymouth Society of Model and Experimental Engineers, died last Thursday at Te Rangimarie Hospice. He was in his 84th year. The Model and Experimental Engineers are a voluntary organisation that provides train rides for the public and supports charities and Monty devoted considerable time building and maintaining engines, many of which took part in parades and other civic affairs. He was a member for 60 years. Monty was farewelled on Wednesday at 10.30am at Te Henui Chapel, where the traction engine he built will be in steam.
