Mark Hoppus shared on social media that he has been diagnosed with cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy for three months.
In a statement posted to Twitter June 23, Hoppus explained that he has “months of treatment ahead” but is also “trying to remain hopeful and positive.”
“For the past three months I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer,” he said. “I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this. I still have months of treatment ahead of me, but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive. Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future. Love to you all.”
Small venues, such as West Hollywood’s historic Roxy Theater, had hundreds of fans lined up outside of them in preparation for a show announced only hours before.
The Brooklyn performance video shows the groundbreaking artist being upfront about his intentions. “Listen, listen,” he says. “This [album] came out, what, six days ago? I’m honestly doing these small little things because I just miss being around fucking humans.”
After the applause died down, the artist detailed how his return to the stage has been. “I wanted to just practice and see what the fuck y’all react to. I don’t know what y’all like off this, so it’s really just practice. It’ll be fun, I hope. I ain’t gonna lie, though, I did Dallas last night, and [there’s] a few old songs that I do not remember. I did ‘Who Dat Boy,’ and I did not remember shit.”
