Kohima, June 6 (MExN): The Phom Union Kohima (PUK) hosted the celebration of 71st Phom Day 2023 under the theme ‘Phom Day and its impact on Phom society’ with P Dako Phom, former parliamentary secretary as the keynote speaker on June 6.
MOKOKCHUNG Phom community in Mokokching district observed the 71st Phom Day during a programme held at Phom Baptist Attoi in Mokokchung town on Tuesday. Phom Naga community observes the day, when of June 6, 1952, the elders of the Phom tribe made a pledge to stop the practice of head hunting. Speaking on the occasion, Y Among, president of Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Mokokchung (ENPUM) and the special guest, stated that the Phom community is thriving economically and socially because of sharing a long border with the Ao community and the Assam state. He urged the community to be more humble and retrospect the past where their elders had pursued the path of peace during the era of head hunting and to transform the Phom community towards a vibrant society.
Our Correspondent Kohima, June 6 (EMN): The Phom Union Kohima (PUK) observed 70th Phom Day (1952-2022), also known as Peace Day, at the Kohima Phom Baptist Church on Monday. It was attended by the Phom community and representatives of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Kohima (ENPUK) and Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation Kohima (ENWOK). Dimapur, June 6 (EMN): Nagaland Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Monday said that Phom Day should not be only about laying down of arms and spears but should also be “about laying down of our pride, greed, isms, misunderstandings and prejudice”. He was addressing the 70th Phom Day on the theme “Proliferating Phom Day Beyond” at the Public Ground in Longleng, which was also attended by his wife; Minister of Health and Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom; MLA BS Nganlang; and many other dignitaries. Also known as “Peace Day”, Phom Day took its root in the head hunting era on June 6, 1952 when the Phom forefathers “committed their lives to put complete halt to conflicts, allowing peace to prevail in the land of Phom, ushering peace within and beyond”, read an update from DPRO Longleng . “It (Phom Day) is about giving up our superiority over the weak, the poor and the environment at our disposal,” Mukhi said. Asserting that peace cannot be forced upon but has to be understood
