MONTRÉAL, April 29, 2021 /CNW Telbec/ - Polytechnique Montréal has just passed an important milestone - for the first time in its history, 30.2% of undergraduate engineering graduates are women (2020).
While Québec and Canadian female engineer graduation averages hover around 21%, this breakthrough demonstrates that the national goal of increasing the rate of newly licensed women engineers to 30% by 2030 is indeed very achievable.
While women currently account for 15.3% of practicing engineers in Québec, and women represent 14% of engineers in Canada.

NSERC Alliance Grants foster collaboration between university researchers and private, public, or non-profit sector partner organizations. Further, the grants support research projects that bring together complementary partners in order to generate new knowledge, and accelerate the application of research results for the benefit of all Canadians.
The 20 NSERC supported Polytechnique Montréal-based projects testify to the diversity and relevance of the institution’s expertise. Polytechnique Montréal creates sustainable engineering institute
The new venture will build upon the university s existing research centres and units.

The university announced the project during this week’s 26
th edition of the Conference of Montréal, the first to be held online, organized by the International Economic Forum of the Americas (IEFA). Known as l’institut de l’ingénierie durable et de l’économie carboneutre (IIDEC), the new venture will focus on solving environmental and social challenges associated with sustainable economic development.
“Technology transfer is an integral part of IIDEC’s mission,” explains Philippe A. Tanguy, president of Polytechnique Montréal. “As one of the major universities offering engineering training and research in Canada, we are a driving force in the creation of talent, knowledge, and innovation for the benefit of Québec.” ....
